Fairway Wood Heads

The higher the loft, the higher the ball flight, but the shorter the carry distance. And the higher the fairway wood number, the higher the loft.

Since a 5-wood has more loft than a 3-wood, it should carry about 8-10 yards shorter for the average golfer. Therefore, players with average swing speeds should be able to carry the golf ball 190-210 yards.

Mondeo Jet Black fairway woods are the only discounted fairway wood component heads on the market featuring an adjustable hosel sleeve. Mondeo Jet Black fairway woods are also entirely made from heat treated, ultra strong Maraging steel. The adjustable hosel sleeve let you change the face angle and lie angle and also allows you to exchange the shaft.

Almost all fairway wood heads are cast from 17-4 stainless steel which is industry standard. 17-4 is harder than 431 stainless steel used for iron heads. 17-4 stainless steel does not allow for bending. Fairway wood heads for beginners are made from aluminum alloys which is less durable.

Most fairway woods have pretty similar specifications. A #3 fairway wood is often 180cc volume. Some #3 fairway wood heads can be as big as 200cc volume. X-Force P24 and King X750 feature a head profile being larger than other models.

As a rough rule of thumb, a 4 wood would replace a 2-iron, a 5 wood the 3-iron, a 7 wood the 4-iron and a 9 wood the 5 iron in terms of loft. The larger club head of a fairway wood and the longer club length compared to an iron makes it easier to achieve more distance without over-swinging

The only time you should hit a 3-wood off the fairway is when you can reach the green. A 5-wood has more loft than a 3-wood and so it's easier to get the ball in the air. A 5-wood should carry about 8-10 yards shorter for the average golfer.
